Around the world, transgender and gender diverse people are
marginalized, stigmatized, and often criminalized. Because of this, members of
the community are at an increased risk of violence by strangers, partners,
family members, and law enforcement.
This project aimed to draw awareness to the issue of gender-based violence against the transgender and gender diverse community, and to depict the lives and stories of the hundreds of people from the community who are victims of violence every year.
The impact of the artefacts and campaign aims to be one that draws awareness to the issue of gender-based violence against transgender and gender diverse people, and to depict the lives and stories of the hundreds of people from the community who are victims of violence every year.

The body contains three articles: the base slip, overlay shirt, and skirt. The skirt is the focus of the body, containing several layers of lights that represent the lives lost to gender-based violence within the community. The skirt is constructed of a combination of mesh tulle for the wires of the lights to be woven into, and organza and chiffon to diffuse the light as it passes through the fabric.
The cape is constructed of white tabbinet, selected to project imagery onto the fabric once the ‘wings’ of the cape are fully extended. Each ‘wing’ is a vertical rectangle canvas in which text, imagery, and video can be displayed on in a performative manner. The projection imagery is further explored in the digital artefact that will be released alongside the garment.
Engagement with this artefact is measured through the public response as it is presented on location through documenting people observing the piece, asking for feedback from people who engage with the work, and utilising the fashion artefact to begin a conversation with the audience.
